Why Alister Overeem should consider fighting Junior Dos Santos

The UFC heavyweight division has had no shortage of stars. When you can put a guy to sleep with a single punch, there's no denying fight fans will want to see you do it again and again. Junior Dos Santos and Alister Overeem are two of those guys. The question is: why haven't these two guys crossed paths?

Junior Dos Santos used an overhand right to become the UFC's heavyweight champ during the first UFC on Fox. After a defense of his title to Frank Mir he would go on to have two more fights with Cain Velasquez.  A total of 50 minutes of fighting at UFC 155 & 166 proved that while not the champion, Junior Dos Santos would be standing in the way of anyone trying to become UFC heavyweight champion.  His last fight took place at UFC fight night in Phoenix, AZ with Stipe Miocic. JDS would once again go five rounds with a top 10 heavyweight, walking away with a decision victory.

Another force to be reckoned with in the Heavyweight division is for Strike Force and F1 division champion Alister Overeem. With brutal kicks to the body, he was able to take down the Viking Brock Lesner and make a statement in the heavyweight division. That momentum soon ended with a pair of devastating loses in fights he was dominating to both Big Foot Silva and Travis Brown. With some time off, a good camp(no longer in the Thailand), and a level of maturity that he could have used during his two loses, Reem is on a two fight win streak against some of the divisions hardest hitters. With a knock out of Stefan Struve and most recent decision victory over Big Country Roy Nelson, Reem may be on a path that could lead him to title shot. What better way ensure hes headed in the right direction, than to have an impressive win over one of the divisions top contenders?

That is however, easier said than done. As JDS has some of the best stand up and hardest punches in the division that could start him on a two fight win streak of his own. But if Overeem was to be patient, circle away from JDS's punches and attack the body with kicks/knees he could hand JDS his third loss in the octagon and make a statement as big as the one he made back at UFC 141.
