Two Welterweight Fights That Makes Sense

And still, after the main event at UFC 209, Tyron Woodley remains the UFC Welterweight. While most fans (and even UFC President Dana White) believe that Stephen "Wonder Boy" Thompson should be the new champion the judges have rendered their decision and the division needs to move forward. These are the two fights that make sense and should happen. Robbie Lawler vs Stephen Thompson  Before Tyron Woodley shocked the division with a first round defeat of former Champion Robbie Lawler,  This is the fight that was suppose to happen. In fact Stephen Thompson stated that he wanted to face Lawler instead of Woodley which the champ took as a slap in face. But now that Thompson has lost to Woodley twice, he will need to stay active amongst the best in the division. This fight would be great for the division and one MMA Fans would want to see. Robbie Lawler, who has been in wars inside the octagon is a fan favorite for his KO power and ability to take punishment in order to dish

What Nunes Needs to Do To Keep The Title

Image
It will be the last fight of the year, the return of Ronda Rousey, and the first time Amanda Nunes defends her Bantamweight title. That should be reason enough to watch UFC 207, but what if it's also the last time Rousey takes a walk to the octagon? Amanda Nunes has a chance to prove that it is in fact "her time" to reign as Bantamweight Champion. With very little film on how to defeat Rousey she will have to study the UFC 193 tape, lucky for her it is all she will need. Holly Holm showed the world how to avoid the arm-bar, all she did was... avoid the arm-bar. But how did she do it? Its simple, she did not allow Rousey to tie her up in a clinch. She kept her distance and hit Rousey harder than she's ever been hit. Rosuey is not able to take many punches and is quick to go for muay thai clinch, right into her Judo, and into the arm-bar. That's what Nunes' needs to avoid. Rousey will do what she is so used to doing, she will charge at Nunes and try to

New Featherweight Champion?

Image
There is a new featherweight champion and it's the old interim champion but the interim title will be on the line at UFC 206.....confused yet? Let's break it down. It seems the UFC kept to their word and have forced Conor Mcgregor to relinquish the featherweight title. Since he never defended the title, Jose Aldo who became the interim champion after defeating Frankie Edgar, has become the new Featherweight Champion. It's like the 13 second fight it never happened (but we all know it did). But what do we need another interim champion? Jose Aldo said he wanted to fight for the Featherweight title or he wanted to be released by the UFC. Because of this, it's safe to say he is not in fighting shape and anywhere near able to make the difficult weight cut to 145 lbs. I call it the "McGregor Effect", no one knew what was going to happen with the division so they didn't know what to get ready for. So what was the UFC to do but to crown a new Int

The Right Move For The Women's Bantamweight Division

With Miesha Tate pulling out a victory at UFC 196, Ronda Rousey rematch seems to be on everyone's mind. The question of a trilogy fight between the new UFC Bantamweight Champion Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey seems like a no brainier, but is it the right move for the division? One of the best things that could have happened to the division was the changing of the guard at UFC 193 where MMA fans saw Holly Holm take out Rousey to become the 2nd champ in the division's history. Now that Tate has the title a match between the former Ultimate Fighter coaches seems like an easy booking for everyone, with an obvious outcome. But if the UFC wants to make the division more exciting and draw a bigger crowd, they need to take advantage of the current standings. While there is no doubt Rousey should get a title shot, there is also an argument to be made for Holm to get an immediate rematch. After all, the score cards seems to have her ahead going into the 5th round of the Co-Main event. S

Why Connor's Win Could Mean Big Thing's for Frankie Edgar.

If and when Conor McGregor defends his featherweight title, the number 1 contender would likely be Frankie Edgar. That in it of itself presents an interesting scenario for the UFC and its matchmaker's. McGregor's title defense will take place after he challenges Rafael Dos Anjos for the lightweight at UFC 197. With a victory there, Conor McGregor would make history by becoming the first to hold two UFC titles at the same time, more specifically he would be the UFC Featherweight and Lightweight champion. That's where Frankie Edgar comes in. As the the former lightweight champion now competing at featherweight, Edgar could be the first to dethrone a champion in two divisions. The best part is there is a number of ways to make it happen. The two can square off on back to back UFC PPV events for each title, they could fight twice in one night, or put both titles on the line in one fight, winner take all.... The possibilities are endless. Of course with different weight clas

What if Cruz Can't Compete?

After five rounds of fast paced stand up, the likes of which only Dominick Cruz and TJ Dillishaw could have put on, the UFC has a new bantamweight champion. Whether MMA fans agree with the decision or not, Dominick Cruz's victory over TJ Dillishaw leaves only one question to be answered: how does the division stay relevant if the champion is injured? As MMA fan knows, Cruz has a history with injuries that have kept him from performing in the octagon. In a backstage interview at UFC Fight Night Boston, we learned that Cruz went through his training camp and competed with plantar fasciitis which may or may not leave him inactive. So what are UFC matchmakers to do if he can't compete? The answer is, give the fans what they want. If Dominick Cruz needs time off to heal, let's have a number one contender match between two top 5 ranked guys in the division that would keep things interesting. Before the title match took place in Boston, Urijah Faber said he wanted a title shot

Enough With The Pointless Trash Talk

After a hand full of great match up to start the new year at UFC 195, MMA fans have the first UFC Fight Nigh to look forward to. The main event for the Fight Night taking place in Boston will feature another title defense for bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw as he faces off against Dominic Cruz. Those who ordered UFC 195 saw both men face off in a battle of words reminiscent of the old WWE smack talk between two low level personalities. T.J Dillishaw and Dominic Cruz are anything but however. Both men have proven time and again that they belong atop the bantamweight division so why build up what is sure to be a great fight with cheap theatrics? Is it because the UFC believes people need a reason to watch the fight? If so, why not play up the fact that Cruz never lost his title and that TJ needs to over this obstacle in order to solidify he standing in the division? That angle would at the very least save MMA fans from having to watch two great athletes behave like middle schoolers t
