When to Expect Rousey vs Cyborg

Shortly after Ronda Rousey defeated Bethe Correia there was a familiar trend throughout social media. MMA fans seem to have only one fight on their minds, a match between the UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and the only women left for her to face Cris Cyborg.  In usual manner UFC President Dana White and the champion herself responded to any question at the post fight press conference regarding Cris Cyborg with a simple "she needs to make weight;" referring of course to the fact that Cyborg competes at 145 lbs and has not yet proven she can cut down and compete at bantamweight.

Adding fuel to the already burning fire was Tito Ortiz announcing that the UFC had offered Cris Cyborg a fight against Ronda Rousey in Dallas Stadium. Dana White was quick to set the record straight telling Yahoo! Sport:

“That was a complete lie,” White said. “It’s 100 percent a lie. First of all, the UFC doesn’t even talk to Tito Ortiz, so let’s start there. But we haven’t offered any fight to [Justino]. Tito Ortiz is just making this [expletive] up. In no way, shape or form did we offer her a fight against Ronda at Cowboys Stadium. Completely untrue."

But in an interview with Ariel Halwsni after UFC 190, Dana White said that he believes a fight between the two female contenders would draw huge PPV numbers, and would love to see the fight happen. While Rousey is set to face Miesha Tate for the third time at UFC 194, the fight MMA fans want to see might have all the makings to be, at the very least, a co-main event at UFC 200. That would give Cris Cyborg enough time to have a fight at bantamweight, and if successful, have time to train for a match against "The Baddest Woman on the Planet."

While Miesha Tate should not be dismissed so easily, Rousey is no doubt the favorite going into UFC 194. MMA fans have seen Ronda Rousey successfully defend her title six times now. She has made fast work of every would be contender and made it look easy in the process leaving very few women left to challenge her. But of the six women Rousey has faced in the UFC, Tate is the only one to make it past the 1st round and has made her own improvements since their first encounter. While a fight between the two has its own appeal, a win by Ronda Rousey would only heightens the demand for a match between the undefeated champion and Cris Cyborg. With so many MMA fans eager for this match, a spot on the UFC 200 card seems like an ideal place for The UFC and fans alike.
