Robbie Lawler vs Carlos Condit Delayed, But There is Still Hope

It would seem the MMA gods want fans to wait for the title match up between Robbie Lawler and former interim champion, Carlos Condit. According to reports, a thumb injury is to blame and while there is still no word on the extent of the injury suffered by Lawler in training, the matchup is set to be rescheduled and not cancelled. Meanwhile, The UFC has announced the new main event for UFC 193 will be Ronda Rousey vs Holly Holm.

Lawler was very active during his title run and put on great performances against the likes of Josh Koscheck, Matt Brown, and even former champion Johnny Hendricks so its great to see that he was trying to be an active champion. The fight against Condit was set to take place only 4 months after At UFC 189 where MMA fans were treated to one of the best fights in UFC welterweight history. Robbie Lawler defeated Rory MacDonald for the second time cementing himself as the new champion. However Lawler did suffered some damage and was left with a huge gash on his upper lip during what will probably be fight of the year. At the post fight press conference for UFC 189 Dana White had this to say about it:

“Robbie Lawler’s lip, if you could’ve been in the octagon and saw his lip, he would talk, and this part of the lip would move, and the other part wouldn’t”

If Lawler was willing to put his title on the line months after going to war with one of the best in the division, he is no doubt a confident champion; which should be good news for anyone who is a fan of the welterwight division. Exciting fights like the co-main event at UFC 189 will keep not only the title shots in the spot light, but showcase the top 10 in the division.
