New Featherweight Champion?

There is a new featherweight champion and it's the old interim champion but the interim title will be on the line at UFC 206.....confused yet?

Let's break it down.

It seems the UFC kept to their word and have forced Conor Mcgregor to relinquish the featherweight title. Since he never defended the title, Jose Aldo who became the interim champion after defeating Frankie Edgar, has become the new Featherweight Champion. It's like the 13 second fight it never happened (but we all know it did). But what do we need another interim champion?

Jose Aldo said he wanted to fight for the Featherweight title or he wanted to be released by the UFC. Because of this, it's safe to say he is not in fighting shape and anywhere near able to make the difficult weight cut to 145 lbs. I call it the "McGregor Effect", no one knew what was going to happen with the division so they didn't know what to get ready for.

So what was the UFC to do but to crown a new Interim Featherweight Champion. Enter Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis; the two will be head lining UFC 206 with the Interim Featherweight Title on the line.
