Why Connor's Win Could Mean Big Thing's for Frankie Edgar.

If and when Conor McGregor defends his featherweight title, the number 1 contender would likely be Frankie Edgar. That in it of itself presents an interesting scenario for the UFC and its matchmaker's. McGregor's title defense will take place after he challenges Rafael Dos Anjos for the lightweight at UFC 197. With a victory there, Conor McGregor would make history by becoming the first to hold two UFC titles at the same time, more specifically he would be the UFC Featherweight and Lightweight champion.

That's where Frankie Edgar comes in. As the the former lightweight champion now competing at featherweight, Edgar could be the first to dethrone a champion in two divisions. The best part is there is a number of ways to make it happen. The two can square off on back to back UFC PPV events for each title, they could fight twice in one night, or put both titles on the line in one fight, winner take all.... The possibilities are endless.

Of course with different weight classes comes different weigh ins so the possibility of two fights in one night are slim to none. But "IF" Conor was to make history by winning two belts, he might be up for the chance to make history again by defending two belts in one night. Who better than Frankie Edgar, the former lightweight champion and current # 2 ranked featherweight to be the guy on the other side of the octagon?
